Reconstructing Amelia by Kimberly McCreight
Short Summary: When Kate Baron, a single mother and lawyer, goes to pick up Amelia from school, she's told that she's dead. Amelia's death is quickly ruled as a suicide but Kate isn't convinced. When Kate receives a text message saying that Amelia didn't jump, she goes out on a mission to find the truth and ends up finding out way more about her daughter than she anticipated.
Personal Review: This book was pretty fast paced and the story is easy to follow. One of the reasons why I added this book to my 'To Read' list was because it was a recommended read for anyone who enjoyed Gillian Flynn's Gone Girl. The only thing that this book and Gone Girl have in common is that they're both fast-paced mystery thrillers. This book is in a league of it's own.
Kimberly McCreight does a fantastic job of maintaining an adult tone to Kate's narration and a YA tone to Amelia's narration. Kate's flashbacks of the time before Amelia's birth, though infrequent, was helpful in understanding Kate on a deeper level.
One thing I wasn't a fan of was the high profanity use. Normally a character swearing doesn't bother me but, the frequent use of the f-bomb got to be a little annoying. For me, the high school teen drama got to be a little draining only because I don't frequent books with that theme.

My Rating: ★★★☆☆ Good story but not a favorite.
